We really don't need a lesson on how to have fun with our dogs, but there are people who actually do it professionally.
Some dog sports are quite popular they gather a huge audiences world-wide, and more and more tv shows spotlighting these events.
When people and dogs do things together it is good news all around. Many of these activities provide the structure that helps people learn to better communicate with their dogs. The dogs have a better opportunity to learn good manners. That makes them easier to live with and less likely to be given up. The activities help people get in touch with one another to share information. That also helps people to learn about dogs, to avoid problems, and to solve them in a healthy way. A wonderful side benefit is that these activities can be a physical and mental boost for humans and dogs alike. Outdoor activities also provides socialization opportunities for both owner and dog.
The Finnish Lapphund being a working breed is not a couch dog and will always have energy that needs to be expended. It requires an owner that is fairly active otherwise, it will find its own way to "expend" that energy.
Many of the activities listed here will be new to you. Some of them you may have seen on TV, but never thought of getting involved in yourself. Well plunge right in and explore. You and your dog will be glad you did. People who play with their dog, stay with their dog. Realize that some of these activities instinctively may not come naturally with the Finnish Lapphund and might take a bit of more work to train them to do.
Although both pupies and adult Lapphunds would benefit from activities, the level and intensity of activity puppies are involved with should not be as strenuous as that of an adult dog. Strenuous activity could affect the still developing bones of a young puppy. In fact, some dog sports like agility, have a minimum age requirement, before a dog could participate.
